Greetings fellow baseball fans!Your Fargo American Legion Booster Club has hit the ground running this spring. Over the winter, the Club Officers (Ann Marie, Shooter, Sandy, Kerry, and Nancy) met several times to talk about the direction of the Booster Club for the upcoming season. More about that later.
I would first like to visit with you regarding the basketball tournament that was held on March 1st. Originally, it was to be a two-day tourney, and to be earlier in the year. However, there were scheduling difficulties that required some changes to those plans. Luckily for us, the date change cut the tournament from 15 teams down to only 9. I say luckily because we had a VERY difficult time filling the worker slots. I believe that EDC basketball in Grand Forks took a lot of our work force away for the weekend. Next year’s tournament will be earlier in the year, and hopefully, that will help. The tournament profited about $1600 for the program. Once again, a big THANK YOU to all who were able to help!
Now, our goals for the year. The first goal is to increase attendance at all Legion Program games at Jack Williams Stadium. Bigger crowds will translate to more income for the program, and it’s a lot more fun for the boys to play in front of a big crowd. We have already set up several “special” evenings at “The Jack” for this season. We are planning an Educators Night on June 4th, Fan Appreciation Night on July 1st, and Armed Services Night on July 8th. We are currently rounding up door prizes to give away on those special nights. If you, or someone you know, would like to donate a door prize for one of those nights, please contact them and then let us know if they are willing to donate. Click here for a form to present to them. We are asking that each Booster Member solicit at least one donation.
Our second goal for the year is to improve the locker room areas that the boys use. We have just launched our “Buy a Locker” campaign by sending out 350 letters to people who have been a part of the program in the past. They are being contacted to see if they would be interested in making a donation to this cause. In return, they will have an engraved locker tag attached to one of the new lockers that will be built and installed. Besides new lockers, we are planning to do some painting, improve ventilation, and improve lighting. We will be putting out several appeals for help as spring draws near. We hope that many people will be able to help out.
