POST 2 HEAD COACH (1967-1995)

Jerry Harter 1979Spending summers at beautiful Jack Williams Stadium was a normal routine for 29-year head coach Jerry Harter. Over the years Jerry had the opportunity to work with many fine young athletes, had terrific support from the baseball committee, and was fortunate to have excellent assistant coaches. Jerry is quick to credit these as reasons that Fargo has consistently produced top-quality teams.

The record shows over 1,200 wins along with eight state championships and seven runners-up. Fargo won the Central Plains Region championship in 1969, 1987 and 1992 under his guidance.

When asked about his greatest thrill over the years, he responded, "I can't describe the feeling all of us associated with this program over the years had the night we played our opening game in the 1992 World Series held right here at Jack Williams Stadium with over 5,000 fans on hand."

A few other highlights of Jerry's career include: Being named Sportsman of the Year by the Lake Agassiz Kiwanis Club, receiving the Special Achievement Award from the North Dakota Sportscasters and Sportswriters, and induction to the North Dakota American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.

A Bismarck, N.D., native, Jerry spent his lifetime in the field of education. He graduated from Concordia College (Minn.) and later earned his Master's Specialist degree from North Dakota State University. He taught and coached at Dickinson High School, Richardton High School, Agassiz Junior High School, Fargo South High School, and served as assistant principal at Moorhead High School for over 20 years.
